The Kookfontein Self Catering Rondawels is situated just outside of Steinkopf on the road to Vioolsdrift - barely 2 km's from the center of town. It is a community based tourism project, and offers the visitor an insight into the Nama culture and lifestyle, with lots of information available and local art on display.

An escape for city people. It is harsh yet friendly, and tells of a unique culture who's heritage needs to be preserved.

Kookfontein is the original name of Steinkopf, established around 1810. It is strongly under the influence of the culture of the Nama people.

Missionary churches played a big role in the establishment of the community, and the "mule" train transporting copper ore from O'kiep to Port Nolloth had a stopover at the Klipfontein Hotel, of which the remnants and old water tower is still visible.
